Cosmetic Procedures
When wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes begin to form, surgery may seem a bit drastic. Luckily, Botox and Dysport injections are non-surgical anti-aging alternatives that are a great option for many people. Botox and Dysport are botulinum injectables that work on wrinkles caused by repeated muscle activity, such as the frown lines that form between the eyebrows and crow’s feet wrinkles. The injections reduce some of this muscle activity so that the skin can relax and become smoother. This quick procedure is very safe and well tolerated. For lines and wrinkles that are a result of lost volume rather than muscle activity dermal fillers (such as Juvederm, Restylane or Perlane) are recommended. Many patients have Botox or Dysport in addition to fillers to smooth a number of facial wrinkles. Botox and Dysport can smooth vertical frown lines between the eyebrows and improve horizontal forehead wrinkles as well as reduce the “crow’s feet” lines around the eyes. Some patients can also see improvement in wrinkles around the mouth and neck bands. If Botox and Dysport injections are performed properly the results should be undetectable. You should look better and more rested, but not as though you have had a cosmetic procedure. While some patients rarely see slight bruising at the injection sites for a few days, no recovery period is required after Botox or Dysport. We advise patients to avoid strenuous exercise on the same day following a treatment, but other than that you are free to resume your normal activities. The full effects of the injections show up within two weeks, and the average dose lasts approximately 3 to 4 months.
Forever Young Health and Wellness uses hyaluronic acid injections such as Juvederm, Restylane, and Perlane to reduce facial wrinkles and lines because of its compatibility with the human body. In fact, this substance is found in almost every single living thing. In humans, it acts as a network that transfers essential nutrients from the bloodstream to skin cells. High concentrations are found in soft connective tissues and in the fluid surrounding your eyes. It’s also in some cartilage and joint fluids, as well as skin tissue. When this gel is injected, it acts like an inflated cushion to support facial structures and tissues that may have lost volume or elasticity due to normal aging. It also brings water to the surface of skin to keep it looking fresh and supple. Most patients need 1 treatment to achieve optimal wrinkle smoothing, and the results last about 1 year.
Chemical peels are a type of procedure during which a substance is applied to the skin resulting in faster skin cell turnover (exfoliation or peeling). The goal of chemical peeling is to rejuvenate the skin or address a specific problem such as acne, acne scars, razor bumps, blemishes, melasma wrinkles, sun damage or fine lines. Even if you don’t have a specific skin problem, getting a chemical peel is a great way to restore or maintain a glowing complexion. Given then their effectiveness, safety and affordability, chemical peels are a very popular dermatologic procedure.
There are different types of chemical peels (superficial, medium, and deep) which offer different benefits and risks. People of all ethnic backgrounds can enjoy the benefits of a chemical peel so long as they are under the care of a qualified professional who knows how to select the right peel for the right patient. At Forever Young Health and Wellness, we offer a variety of superficial and medical grade chemical peels that get results through a series of treatments but have little to no downtime.
